  1. I know you sometimes discuss Korean! But if you where ever to make a Korean app similar to this Japanese app it would be greatly appreciated. Or even just a list of the best apps for learning Korean would be greatly appreciated!!

    • Unfortunately, I’ve got too much stuff I want to do just for Japanese that I don’t think I’ll ever get to doing Korean.

    Bugs:
    1) The reading pop-up out of 12-15 times pop-up 3-5 pages down from the character tapped (also in horizontal mode)
    2) If the character at the end of the article is tapped than a lot of empty space is added to the page (related to the bug 1).

    Going to read it tomorrow in a train and post here if there will be something worth mentioning.

  4. @urahara: Strange… That’s what I used for beta testing. Perhaps it’s related to iOS4 – I don’t think I tried a 3G with iOS4. I noticed the issue on the new iPhone 4, but I didn’t see it on my 3G. Anyway, I’m planning on releasing an update in a day or so in order to fix it. I’m going to change the reading popups to work in a way that doesn’t depend on pixels for positioning – especially since the iPhone 4 doesn’t have a 1:1 pixel ratio.

Just thought I’d let everyone know that I’ve submitted an update that should fix the kanji reading issues, adds backwards compatibility with iOS 3.1.3, includes higher resolution artwork for iPhone 4 users, and fixes a couple small bugs (busy week!). It should be available for download soon – as soon as Apple approves it!

  13. Just thought I’d let everyone know that the 1.0.1 update is now available for download in the app store. This update fixes the kanji reading issue and adds support for iOS 3.1.3.

    • Thanks for that. However, is there a reason you are limiting it to 3.1.3? Why no >=3? I am still at 3.1.2 because there is no real benefit to me (iphone 3g) to any newer version. Thanks.

  16. Just downloaded the app and it seems fantastic so far! I did a wee Saturday course in Japanese earlier in the year and since I haven’t had many chances to practise, I wanted to revise before the second step of the course starts up in January. Hopefully with the app, I’ll not only be able to keep up with the new students who will have it all fresh in their heads, but I’ll be ahead of the curve!

    My only complaint would be that the pronunciation soundbytes are very quiet. Whenever I pause my music to hear an example, I also need to turn the volume up on my headphones very loud before I get it to play the audio. Other than that, fabulous app!

    By the way, if this app was up-sized for iPad it would be great!
