For example, \u300c\u4e07\u300d does not mean 10,000, you need to add a one: \u300c\u4e00\u4e07\u300d.<\/p>\n<p>Because the Japanese numeral system is based on units of four not three, the same units get repeated once you get past 10,000 until you get to 100,000,000. In other words, numbers are organized as 1,0000, 1,0000,0000, 10^12, 10^16 and so on.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll need to pay careful attention to reading changes for some sound combinations. You will usually see a combination of numbers and Kanji or just numerals altogether.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>1,234 \u3010\u305b\u3093\u30fb\u306b\u30fb\u3072\u3083\u304f\u30fb\u3055\u3093\u30fb\u3058\u3085\u3046\u30fb\u3088\u3093\u3011 &#8211; 1,234<\/li>\n<li>\uff15\u4e07\uff13\u5343 \u3010\u3054\u30fb\u307e\u3093\u30fb\u3055\u3093\u30fb\u305c\u3093\u3011 &#8211; 53,000<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Other numbers<\/h2>\n<p>Several ways to say zero and other types of numbers are listed below. \u300c\u307e\u308b\u300d meaning &#8220;circle&#8221; is similar to how we use &#8220;O&#8221; (the letter) in things like phone numbers, room numbers, and addresses.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u96f6\u3000\u3010\u308c\u3044\u3011 &#8211; zero<\/li>\n<li>\u30bc\u30ed &#8211; zero<\/li>\n<li>\u307e\u308b &#8211; circle; zero<\/li>\n<li>\uff5e\u53f7\u5ba4\u3000\u3010\uff5e\u3054\u3046\u30fb\u3057\u3064\u3011 &#8211; suffix for room numbers<\/li>\n<li>\u30de\u30a4\u30ca\u30b9X &#8211; negative X<\/li>\n<li>\u70b9 \u3010\u3066\u3093\u3011 &#8211; period; dot; decimal point<\/li>\n<li>X.Y \u300cX\u30fb\u3066\u3093\u30fbY\u300d &#8211; X.Y<\/li>\n<li>X\u5206\u306eY &#8211; Y\/X (Y of X parts)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Example<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\uff12\uff10\uff13\u53f7\u5ba4 \u3010\u306b\u30fb\u307e\u308b\u30fb\u3055\u3093\u30fb\u3054\u3046\u30fb\u3057\u3064\u3011 &#8211; room 203<\/li>\n<li>23.5 \u3010\u306b\u30fb\u3058\u3085\u3046\u30fb\u3055\u3093\u30fb\u3066\u3093\u30fb\u3054\u3011 &#8211; twenty three point five<\/li>\n<li>\u56db\u5206\u306e\u4e00 \u3010\u3088\u3093\u30fb\u3076\u3093\u30fb\u306e\u30fb\u3044\u3061\u3011\u3000- fourth (1\/4)<\/li>\n<li>\u30de\u30a4\u30ca\u30b9\uff15 &#8211; negative five<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>It&#8217;s so confusing!<\/h3>\n<p>\u30b8\u30e7\u30f3\uff1a\u3042\u3001\u3082\u3046\uff01\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u306e\u6570\u3063\u3066\u5168\u7136\u5206\u304b\u3093\u306a\u3044\uff01<br \/>\nJohn: Oh already!
