{"id":499,"date":"2017-10-16T19:48:22","date_gmt":"2017-10-16T23:48:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/guidetojapanese.org\/learn\/?p=499"},"modified":"2017-10-17T15:15:14","modified_gmt":"2017-10-17T19:15:14","slug":"unintended-actions-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/guidetojapanese.org\/learn\/complete\/unintended","title":{"rendered":"Unintended Actions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes we do things that we didn&#8217;t mean to and there are a couple ways we can express actions that we did not intend to take.<\/p>\n<p>We can use the noun for intention \uff08\u3064\u3082\u308a\uff09 to express what was or wasn&#8217;t intended.<\/p>\n<h3>Example<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\u3064\u3082\u308a &#8211; intention; plan<\/li>\n<li>\u5f8c \u3010\u3042\u3068\u3011 &#8211; afterwards<\/li>\n<li>\u8cb7\u3044\u7269 \u3010\u304b\u30fb\u3044\u30fb\u3082\u306e\u3011 &#8211; shopping<\/li>\n<li>\u3059\u308b (exception) &#8211; to do<\/li>\n<li>\u884c\u304f \u3010\u3044\u30fb\u304f\u3011 (u-verb) &#8211; to go<\/li>\n<li>\u591c \u3010\u3088\u308b\u3011 &#8211; evening<\/li>\n<li>\u51fa\u304b\u3051\u308b \u3010\u3067\u30fb\u304b\u3051\u308b\u3011(ru-verb) &#8211; to go out<\/li>\n<li>\u3042\u308b (u-verb) &#8211; to exist (inanimate)<\/li>\n<li>\u5fc3\u914d \u3010\u3057\u3093\u30fb\u3071\u3044\u3011 &#8211; worry; concern<\/li>\n<li>\u3044\u308b (u-verb) &#8211; to need<\/li>\n<li>\u5148\u751f \u3010\u305b\u3093\u30fb\u305b\u3044\u3011 &#8211; teacher<\/li>\n<li>\u6559\u3048\u308b \u3010\u304a\u3057\u30fb\u3048\u308b\u3011 (ru-verb) &#8211; to teach; to inform<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>\u5f8c\u3067\u8cb7\u3044\u7269\u3092\u3057\u306b\u884c\u304f<em>\u3064\u3082\u308a<\/em>\u3067\u3059\u3002<br \/>\n(I) intend on going to do shopping later.<\/li>\n<li>\u591c\u306b\u51fa\u304b\u3051\u308b<em>\u3064\u3082\u308a<\/em>\u306f\u306a\u3044\u306e\u3067\u3001\u5fc3\u914d\u306f\u3044\u308a\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3002<br \/>\n(I) don&#8217;t intend on going out at night so (you) don&#8217;t need (to) worry.<\/li>\n<li>\u5148\u751f\u306b\u6559\u3048\u308b<em>\u3064\u3082\u308a<\/em>\u306f\u306a\u304b\u3063\u305f\u3093\u3060\u3088\u3002<br \/>\n(I) didn&#8217;t intend on telling the teacher, you know.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can have no intention using \u300c\u3064\u3082\u308a\u300d and \u300c\u306a\u3044\u300d as the last example sentence shows. However, in order to describe something unintended (accidental), we need to use verb:\u300c\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d.<\/p>\n<h2>Using \u300c\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d for unintended actions<\/h2>\n<p>The verb \u300c\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d has two main definitions: 1) to finish; to do something completely and 2) for something unintended to happen. The latter definition is used for situations when you did something you didn&#8217;t mean to do. To use this with other verbs, attach \u300c\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d to the te-form of the verb.<\/p>\n<h3>Example<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><em>\u3057\u307e\u3063\u305f<\/em>\uff01\u5bbf\u984c\u3092\u6301\u3063\u3066\u304f\u308b\u306e\u3092\u5fd8\u308c\u305f\uff01<br \/>\nOh no! (I) forgot to bring (my) homework!<\/li>\n<li>\u3082\u3046<em>\u8d77\u304d\u3066\u3057\u307e\u3063\u305f<\/em>\u4e8b\u306f\u4ed5\u65b9\u306a\u3044\u3088\u3002<br \/>\nThere&#8217;s nothing you can do about something that already happened (unintentionally).<\/li>\n<li>\u6211\u6162\u304c\u3067\u304d\u306a\u3044\u304b\u3089\u3064\u3044\u3064\u3044<em>\u8cb7\u3063\u3066\u3057\u307e\u3046<\/em>\u3093\u3067\u3059\u3088\u3002<br \/>\n(I) can&#8217;t resist so (I) unintentionally end up buying (it).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Casual version of \u300c\uff5e\u3066\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d<\/h2>\n<p>In casual speech, the \u300c\uff5e\u3066\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d can be substituted by \u300c\uff5e\u3061\u3083\u3046\u300d while \u300c\uff5e\u3067\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d is substituted by \u300c\u3058\u3083\u3046\u300d. Both \u300c\uff5e\u3061\u3083\u3046\u300d and \u300c\uff5e\u3058\u3083\u3046\u300d conjugate just like regular u-verbs.<\/p>\n<h3>Example<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\u3082\u3046\u6ce8\u6587<em>\u3057\u3061\u3083\u3063\u305f<\/em>\u3051\u3069\u3001\u3069\u3046\u3059\u308b\uff1f<br \/>\n(I) already ordered (oops) so what should (we) do?<\/li>\n<li>\u5f7c\u5973\u3092\u5143\u5f7c\u5973\u306e\u540d\u524d\u3067<em>\u547c\u3093\u3058\u3083\u3063\u305f<\/em>\u3088\uff01<br \/>\n(I) called my girlfriend by my ex-girlfriend&#8217;s name (by accident)!<\/li>\n<li>\u3082\u3046<em>\u5206\u304b\u3063\u3061\u3083\u3063\u305f<\/em>\u4e8b\u306f\u5fd8\u308c\u3089\u308c\u306a\u3044\u3067\u3057\u3087\u3046\uff1f<br \/>\n(I) can&#8217;t forget something that I already learned (unintentionally) right?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There is also a much less common casual version of \u300c\uff5e\u3066\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d and \u300c\uff5e\u3067\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d that sounds much more rough and coarse and is usually only used by older males. This version replaces \u300c\uff5e\u3066\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d and \u300c\uff5e\u3067\u3057\u307e\u3046\u300d with \u300c\uff5e\u3061\u307e\u3046\u300d and \u300c\uff5e\u3058\u307e\u3046\u300d respectively. The result is conjugated the same as any u-verb.<\/p>\n<h3>Example<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\u307e\u305f\u9023\u7d61\u3059\u308b\u306e\u3092<em>\u5fd8\u308c\u3061\u307e\u3063\u305f<\/em>\u306e\u304b\u3088\uff1f<br \/>\nDid (you) forget to contact (me) again?\n<\/li>\n<li>\u60aa\u3044\u3001\u304a\u524d\u306e\u30e1\u30fc\u30eb\u3092<em>\u8aad\u3093\u3058\u307e\u3063\u305f<\/em>\u3088\u3002<br \/>\nSorry, (I) read your email (by accident).\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>\u7559\u5b66\u751f\u306e\u767b\u5834<\/h3>\n<p>\u9999\uff1a\u306f\u3058\u3081\u307e\u3057\u3066\uff01\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u306e\u5b66\u751f\u3060\u3088\u306d\uff1f\u79c1\u3001\u9999\u3063\u3066\u3044\u3046\u306e\u3002<br \/>\nKaori: Nice to meet you!
