In this section, we&#8217;ll learn some other useful expressions dealing with various amounts.<\/p>\n<h2>Expressing nothing but with \u300c\u3070\u304b\u308a\u300d<\/h2>\n<p>\u300c\u3070\u304b\u308a\u300d has many different usages some of which we&#8217;ll cover later. For example, it can have the same meaning as \u300c\u3060\u3051\u300d or \u300c\u3050\u3089\u3044\u300d. However, in conversational Japanese, it&#8217;s often used to describe an abundance ie, &#8220;it&#8217;s nothing but&#8230;&#8221;. It comes after a noun or adjective just like a particle and the result becomes a noun.<\/p>\n<h3>Example<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\u8077\u5834\u306f<em>\u3044\u3044\u4eba\u3070\u304b\u308a<\/em>\u3060\u3002<br \/>\nWorkplace is nothing but good people.<\/li>\n<li><em>\u4ed5\u4e8b\u3070\u304b\u308a<\/em>\u3092\u3057\u3066\u3044\u308b\u3068\u3001\u5927\u5207\u306a\u3053\u3068\u3092\u898b\u5931\u3046\u3002<br \/>\nIf (you) do nothing but work, (you) will lose sight of important things.<\/li>\n<li>\u6700\u8fd1\u306f\u3001<em>\u8089\u3070\u304b\u308a<\/em>\u3092\u98df\u3079\u3066\u3044\u308b\u304b\u3089\u91ce\u83dc\u3092\u3082\u3063\u3068\u98df\u3079\u308b\u3088\u3046\u306b\u3057\u3066\u3044\u308b\u3002<br \/>\n(I&#8217;ve) been eating nothing but meat lately so (I&#8217;m) trying to eat more vegetables.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In casual Japanese, it can also be shortened to just \u300c\u3070\u3063\u304b\u308a\u300d or \u300c\u3070\u3063\u304b\u300d.<\/p>\n<h3>Example<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><em>\u3046\u305d\u3070\u3063\u304b\u308a<\/em>\uff01<br \/>\nNothing but lies!<\/li>\n<li>\u30a2\u30c9\u30ec\u30b9\u5e33\u306f\u4f55\u3067<em>\u5973\u306e\u5b50\u3070\u3063\u304b<\/em>\u306a\u306e\uff1f<br \/>\nWhy is (your) address book nothing but girls?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Expressing degree with \u300c\u3055\u300d<\/h2>\n<p>\u300c\u3055\u300d is used to convert an adjective into a scale or degree.
